HOUSTON, TX - The Onion, a once popular online leftist rag that used to be funny sometimes back in the day, found itself unexpectedly funny and relevant again for a minute when it spectacularly failed to acquire/steal Infowars from Alex Jones.

Last month The Onion seemed to be on the brink of taking over Infowars after supposedly submitting the winning bid in a court-supervised bankruptcy auction, but when Jones highlighted the decidedly un-auction-like nature of the auction in question, the whole thing was revealed to be a massively lame joke, even by Onion standards.

"This 'auction' didn't even allow the highest bids to be counted," noted Jones while laughing in the immediate aftermath of The Onion implosion. "They just thought they could shamelessly rig a fake auction, rape the justice system, and walk away with Infowars. What a joke! Best joke The Onion has come up with in a long time, actually, which is kinda sad."

"It was nice to be noticed and taken seriously again for a second," explained Onion CEO Ben Collins. "For a minute there it looked like it was really going to happen, but then the whole rigged phony auction thing came to light, and here we are, back to our pre-Infowars state of humorless irrelevance."

"Bummer."
